Genevieve Atwood is the former Utah State Geologist, who was a key player in stabilizing the Thistle slide in 1980 helping to prevent any additional damage. She is a prominent Utah scientist who served six years in Utah House of Representatives. Atwood has also served on a number of policy and advisory boards. Additionally, she is the chief education officer of Earth Science Education—a nonprofit organization that helps teachers teach students using the world outside their classroom.
