Jeanette Misaka

Women in Education

Jeanette Misaka was just ten years old when her family was forced to move from their home in California to Japanese interment camps first in California and then in Heart Mountain, Wyoming. Her experiences led her to a life of service within in the Japanese American Community. She has served in many leadership positions locally and nationally with the Japanese American Citizens League and the American Association of University Women. She has also been a long time supporter of the Matsumoto Sister City program. She is very dedicated to education. She earned bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees and went on to teach special education at the elementary school level as well as supervising the student teachers in the special education program at the University of Utah.
