Our Purpose » Presentation

Nominations of 100 women will be accepted for consideration in the final presentation of approximately twenty women in a garden walk. The walk will include exhibits of sculpture, architectural signage, and audio listening devices with recorded information about the women’s lives. It is intended that the project will eventually become a traveling public exhibit that will be featured throughout the state of Utah. A book including the biographies of all 100 nominees will also be available.

The Utah Women's Walk centerpiece bronze statue "Connexion" by Utah sculptor Ben Hammond symbolizes the interconnections of women across generations as well as the diversity of women in Utah. The sculpture is intended to be a reminder of how, despite divergent roles, women can feel supported, sustained, inspired, and encouraged by becoming aware of the remarkable stories of exceptional Utah women since 1847. The upward cylindrical motion depicted by the interweaving of arms and bodies suggests how women who stand in awareness of the notable lives of other women, from the past as well as the present, can move forward and achieve new heights in their own fields of pursuit. The representation of the young male child illustrates the influence of all women as nurturers of mankind.
